Am I eligible?
So long as you are 18 years of age or older, speak proficient English, enrolled in a University and already completed one semester you are eligible.
Can I take part if I am doing a Masters Degree?
You have to be doing an undergraduate degree to take part.
What are the application dates?
In 2014, applications opened in September and Interviews took places 2 weeks after emails were sent out as to whether you had been successful or not.
We flew out to Orlando on the 15th of June and had our last day of work on September 11th. We had to check out of the hotel September 12th. You then have the option with the J1 visa to go travelling.
Is there housing available?
Unlike Disney there is not designated housing. Instead everyone stays in an Extended Stay Hotel close to Universal Studios. There is normally 3 people to a room that consists of 2 double beds, a sofa bed, a kitchen and a bathroom. There is a laundry room available as well as a gym. A maid will visit your room once a week and make your bed so long as there is nothing on it. There is also a pool available as well as a grab-and-go breakfast.
Can I request a roommate?
Yes you can email Yummy Jobs so long as you are giving them enough notice.
What transport is there available?
There is no bus transport from Extended Stay to the Loews Hotels like there is for the Disney program, however most hotels are within walking distance. There are public buses available to get to places like Walmart and the I-Trolley to get to theme parks and outlet malls. When none of these were available we always called an Uber as there we so convenient and faster than other transport.
When will I start work?
The first week in Orlando is spent at Loews training events as well as a CCI charity event. Yummy Jobs also host events such as a pizza pool party and a ice cream night. The second week is spent learning the job and shadowing somebody.
How often do you get paid?
We received our pay checks every 2 weeks. You could either set up a direct debit to go into your american bank account or get them cashed. You could cash your cheques at either Publix or Wal-Mart.
How many hours do you have to work?
You are scheduled to work 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. However it's up to you whether you work that, you can swap shifts or request less time at work so you have more free time.
