Top 10 Universal Snacks!

There are so many ways to indulge your sweet tooth when you’re on an Orlando Vacation. The creativity behind some of the treats and the deliciousness in each bite definitely add to the wonderful memories you are sure to make when you’re here, at the most exciting vacation destination in the world! In between surviving an amazing adventure with Spider-Man and getting turned into a Minion, you are going to want to refuel and you will crave something sweet. Luckily, the resort's two parks and CityWalk complex offer plenty of great things to munch on. Here is my list of top 10 snacks to grab on your next trip to Universal Orlando.

#10 Character Themed Candy Bars

Universal has many generic candy options themed to their brands but there are also ten candy bars which are completely tied into the characters they feature. The candy bar with Despicable Me’s Minions uses banana in its recipe, while the one with Agnes is cotton candy flavoured, the E.T. bar is a chocolate peanut butter bar with Reeses Pieces, while Spongebob Squarepants has a white chocolate pineapple bar with pineapple bits. When you unwrap the Back to The Future bar the silver wrapping is the iconic “OUTATIME” license plate. The synergy between these bars and the characters they feature is a great touch, and something we can hopefully see more of from both Universal and Disney in the future.

#9 Brain Freezin’ D’oh-nut Sundae

A glazed donut topped with pink frosting and sprinkles is cut in half, sandwich-style, and then the bottom of the donut is placed in a bowl, with your choice of chocolate or vanilla soft serve layered on top. Then you choose your topping (choices include sprinkles, Oreo pieces, Reese’s pieces, and more), and, finally, the top of the donut is placed at the peak, topped with a crown of whipped cream and a cherry. At $6.49, it is a pretty good deal, considering it is large enough to share. This is definitely the pinnacle of theme park sweet treats. It tastes as good as it looks, and you are sure to get a few looks of admiration from your fellow park guests as you enjoy every last bite.

#8 Chocolate Frog

Food items that were referenced in the Potter books and movies, such as Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans and pumpkin juice, are available for purchase at Universal's Wizarding World lands. Another popular treat in which park visitors can indulge is a Chocolate Frog. The solid hunk of milk chocolate in the form of a frog comes housed in a lovely pentagon-shaped box and includes a "wizard card."

#7 Florean Fortescue Ice Cream

There’s no better way to cool down from the Floridian heat, than with a refreshing ice cream, and Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour is undoubtedly the place to go. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’ll remember that this is the place that Harry enjoyed several ice cream treats during the summer, in the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban book. This is the chance for all of you muggles out there to try some of the delicious (and unusual!) flavours available in the Wizarding world. Traditional ice cream flavours include vanilla and chocolate, but for the more adventurous muggles, there’s chocolate chilli, early grey and lavender and Harry’s favourite- strawberry and peanut butter. Of course, there’s also a Butterbeer flavoured ice cream, and we’d definitely recommend giving this a try.

#6 Duff Beer

For years, we have watched Homer Simpson kick back a Duff and now you can sample the Simpsons beer yourself. You can visit the picture perfect replica of the Springfield bar and order a mug on draft. You can even listen in on a Bart Simpson prank call on the old-school phone sitting at the bar. You can also get a frosty mug of Duff at the outdoor Duff Brewery beer garden. Duff itself is quite good. Specially brewed for Universal, it tastes like a fine quality craft beer

#5 Cauldron Cakes

Cauldron Cakes have been a popular treat at the Universal Orlando Resort for some time, but they’ve recently had a bit of a makeover. The new cauldron cakes look absolutely amazing! The rich chocolate cupcake is now served inside a miniature souvenir cauldron, with bright orange buttercream flames rising from the top. Make sure you’ve got your camera handy, as this is definitely Instagram-worthy. The original Cauldron Cakes ($3.95) were thick, moist chocolate cake in a curvy cauldron shape is filled with creamy chocolate mousse with the bottom dipped in chocolate ganache, which formed to resemble the bottom of a cauldron, then a chocolate ganache handle added the perfect finishing touch.

#4 Toothsome Milkshake

Definitely a must if you have a sweet tooth, and possibly if you have someone to help you finish it. There are all sorts of huge shakes to try at Toothsome such as the Red Velvet shake- a mouth-watering concoction of vanilla ice cream, raspberry sauce, fresh whipped cream and plenty of rainbow sprinkles. There’s even an entire Red Velvet cupcake with a cherry on top! You can also enjoy Salted Dulce De Leche, Peanut Indulgence, Heavenly Hazelnut, Strawberry Cheesecake and Marshmallow Crisp varieties.

#3 Lard Lad Donut

The Big Pink is one of Universal’s most famous snacks. Head to Springfield to try one of these impressive doughnuts. Be warned though, they are huge, I'm talking the size of your head huge! The doughnut is covered with a bright pink, sweet, creamy frosting, and topped with plenty of rainbow sprinkles. They’re absolutely delicious, and will also look picture-perfect on your Instagram. In 2016, Lard Lad introduced more donuts to the menu, Donuts topped with crushed Oreos, Fruity Pebbles, bacon and others!

#2 Brookie

I mean it’s a brownie topped with a chocolate chip cookie?! Two desserts for the price of one, and at $2.79, it is a pretty sweet bargain. These delicious treats are perfect for picking up when you fancy a quick bite in-between exploring the park, and are considered one of Universal’s signature snacks. To create this incredible combination, a tasty chocolate chip cookie is baked inside a gooey chocolate brownie. Once you give it a try, we’re sure you’ll be going back for more.

#1 Butterbeer

While this may be counted as a drink, it's impossible to have a list of Universal snacks and not include Butterbeer on the list. Offered cold, frozen, and warm, butterbeer isn't just delicious, it's downright addictive. Since it was introduced, no trip to the Universal parks is complete without at least one cup of the heavenly treat. If you’ve watched the Harry Potter movies and always wished you could try a glass of Butterbeer, now you can. It tastes like a mouth-watering concoction of caramel, butterscotch and cream soda all mixed in one. This is an absolute must-try for any Harry Potter fan! If that's not enough you can also try hot Butterbeer, Butterbeer-flavoured fudge, Butterbeer potted cream and Butterbeer ice cream.
