Well the countdown is slowly getting there! We're slowly hitting the big milestones!
So the latest updates, on January 15th I got an email from Yummy Jobs, the first contact we've had from them, saying congratulations. They also provided information on what we can expect during the next few months.
Criminal Background Check (DBS Application)
All candidates are required to have a new background check report completed in the name of the Walt Disney Company. This must be completed by the Yummy Jobs Team.
You will receive your criminal background check application form in the post.
The fee for completing and processing your background check is £90.00. This is payable to Yummy Jobs.
Your DBS application will not be processed until Yummy Jobs has received confirmation of your payment
DBS applications are typically processed 2-3 months prior to your program arrival
Expect your DBS clearance report to arrive 4-8 weeks before your program arrival date.
I paid my criminal background check fee on the 31st of January however my paperwork hasn't arrived yet so it won't be processed for a while. I then sent the confirmation over to Yummy Jobs just so I didn't forget.
Flight
This part didn't really apply to me since I have already booked mine but here is the info they sent over.
You are able to book your flight to the USA at this time and are free to do so through any provider.
Yummy Jobs partners with STA Travel to offer participants flight deals
We would recommend booking a flexible ticket to the United States to ensure that you can change your ticket if there is any delays with your visa or any unforeseen circumstances
In the weeks leading up to your arrival, you will be provided with a housing check-in window on your program start date between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm
Early or late arrivals into housing are not permitted
You will be required to arrive into Orlando at least one day prior to your program start date
You will be responsible for any hotel and transportation costs for this period and will be required to source this yourself
Visa & Application Process
Yummy Jobs is not involved with your Q-1 Visa for your program
Your visa documents will be sent to your Disney dashboard typically 6-8 weeks prior to your program arrival date
This document will expire from your dashboard after 14 days.
As soon as you receive this document in the post please download it and keep it safe
We recommend printing more than one copy of this
Please note, in order to obtain your visa documents, you must have completed all steps outlined by Disney International Recruitment
As part of your visa application, you will be required to submit a fee of $190 to obtain your visa
This is due prior to selecting the time and date of your embassy visit:
Medical Insurance
You must obtain appropriate medical insurance for your program prior to arrival in the United States
Medical Insurance is a mandatory part of your program with the Walt Disney World Resort
It is your responsibility to ensure appropriate medical cover is arranged before your arrival into the U.S.
You will be asked for proof of this during your program arrival.
Yummy Jobs are not involved with medical insurance for Disney International Programs, they cannot advise on specific medical insurance plans
You can select from one of the following options:
First 4-month medical cover
This can be purchased through a provider of your choice
You need to ensure the medical insurance you are purchasing covers you for working in the U.S.
Travel insurance alone does not always offer the correct level of medical cover
During your program, you will automatically be enrolled onto Disney’s company medical insurance plan
This is effective after 4 months for the remainder of your program
The cost for this is payroll deducted from your wages each week
12-month medical cover
This allows you to purchase full 12-month medical insurance for the duration of your program in the U.S
This can be purchased through a provider of your choice
You need to ensure the medical insurance you are purchasing covers you for working in the U.S.
Travel insurance alone does not always offer the correct level of medical cover
If choosing this option, you will need to opt out of Disney’s automatic medical plan enrollment once in the USA
I've been buying a few bits and bobs and putting them in an Orlando pile, including shorts, pjs, a pack of the Primark socks which I've heard people on the program swear by so I plan to buy a pack every time I go to a Primark. I've also put aside things that I don't want to use before I go like a pack of film for my Polaroid camera, washbags, a small handbag just little bits I come across that I know I want to take. A friend of mine recommended this to help the feeling sink in and it has been helping so if you get on the program, no matter how far away your date is, it's never too early to have a packing pile!
I also made a promise to myself at new year that I would go through every aspect of my room and have a clear out. I threw away so much stuff I filled about 8 bin bags, and it feels so good to start fresh!
