Pre-Screen Interview - CEP

As I mentioned in my previous post I never made it past the pre-screen however I hope you guys could learn from my experience!

I got a response back around October 1st telling me that I got an interview in Newcastle which was in 2 weeks. If you are applying I really recommend joining all the Facebook groups and chat rooms you can as I only discovered I got an email because of the Facebook group. We also used the page to arrange travelling down together, hotels, meeting places etc.. At the time I applied the locations for interviews changed every year however no I believe Yummy Jobs do all their interview at their offices in Essex. You also may be the last group of interviews on that day which could be 6pm so make sure you plan your travel arrangements around this.

So I went to the train station in Glasgow and met a guy from the Facebook page so we could travel down together. A lot of us arranged to stay in a EuroHostel so we could walk to the interview together in the morning. The night before the interview a big group of us went to TGI Fridays and talked about everyones experiences. The was a boy and girlfriend who were applying (only one of them made it on), there was a girl who had a tattoo on her wrist and had paid to get it layered off before the program started (she didn't end up getting the program either!)

The morning of the Interview we all waited outside a lecture hall at Northumbria University. Once we went in there was a presentation basically getting you hyped up for the program and getting you all excited asking fun trivia questions. You then get giving a name of your group you will be doing your interview with, the time and who will be doing your interview. PLEASE write this down because they read it off so fast over half had to go and ask for theirs again. I had my interview with Katie who at the time was the newest member of the Yummy Jobs team (she's now left) and I was also in the same group as the guy I got the train down with so I was happy there was someone there I already knew. Our interview wasn't until the afternoon so a large group of us went to a Starbucks round the corner and set up camp for a few hours.

Once the interview time creeped up we met the others we'd be interviewing with which was about 6 people in total. The interviews lasted roughly 10 - 15 minutes where you all sit in a half circle opposite you YJ recruiter and her scribe who writes down all the applicants answers. There was a few really nice girls, girls I've still kept in contact with and a couple of guys who were really quiet, didn't interact much and kept to themselves. Once we were in there we were really chatty and chilled.

I cannot stress enough how much you should relax as I was not relaxed in the slightest! Some questions that we were asked were:

- Why do you want to do the program?

- What aspects of American culture would you like to experience?

- What are your top 3 role choices?

- What Disney character are you most like and why?

In the interview there was one guy who kept cutting people off, being rude, stubborn if someone said an answer that he was going to say yet he ended up passing the pre-screen interviews. There was also a girl who was born to work at Disney she was so lively and fun yet she ended up getting wait listed. So it's basically impossible to know how Yummy Jobs narrow it down. I would say just smile and be kind to others, don't treat it like a competition to beat out the others just enjoy yourself.

We all found out our results roughly a week later however it was all on different days as there was a fault with the YJ website so I was one of the last to hear back which was that I was unsuccessful.

TIPS!

The main reason I felt that I was unsuccessful was that I was over pre-pared. Due to nerves and anxiety I did not want to be taken a back by a question so I read every Disney Blog I could, found out all the questions they asked and wrote down my answers and memorised them. This made me come across quite robotic and not genuine. So please learn from my mistakes!. I also took treated it too much like a regular job interview meaning I didn't come across as excited as I was.
