STAGE 1: Cover Letter

When it comes to normal jobs, a cover letter isn't normally a necessity. For the CRP however a cover letter is required and probably one of the biggest factors as to whether you have an interview or not. This is where you can really get your personality across as well as your passion. I would also mention your love for Disney as a company. Remember as well it is a CULTURAL EXCHANGE you are meant to interact with people all over the world so don't forget to mention something along those lines.

The best tips I found whilst researching was from Adam Hattan's blog. He suggests following a 3 paragraph layout:

1. Where you want to go? - Your future goals

2. Where you've been? - How your past has built towards your future

3. How you intend to get there? - How is the CRP going to help achieve your goals

Cover Letter Layout

Just the same as I did my CV, I wrote my cover letter in Microsoft word with the same layout and colour scheme.

Information

Just the same as the CV I had my name in a large font with my details below it which included address, phone number and email address.

Part 1

I suggest starting it as a formal letter with "Dear Sir/Madam", you should think of it as half Disney/ half formal job. My opening statement mentioned how I was hoping to be considered for a position on the CRP and a brief over view of my previous experience.

Part 2

For my first paragraph I swapped Adam Hattan's 1st and 2nd paragraph suggestions around so I begun with where I had been. Any past jobs you think are relevant, any volunteer work and previous exchange programs I talked about here.

Part 3

My second paragraph (as corny as it is) I used to talk about my dream and aspirations. I talked about my future career goals and how Disney shaped them as well as my university degree.

Part 4

In my final paragraph I discussed how Disney World is an inspiring company and why I believe my personality would fit in with the company as well as with the cast members. It also wouldn't hurt to mention how cultural exchange would impact you. I would then end it by saying you look forward to hearing from them and sign it "yours sincerely".

Next week should be results week!
