Stage 2: Pre-Screen prep

The Yummy Jobs pre-screen process is normally held over a couple of days in London and has been previously held in Manchester. It is usually an all day job so if you are using public transport or flying down for the interview I totally recommend travelling back the day after the interview. Yummy Jobs use the pre-screen event to narrow down the number of applicants they send to the final interviews at Disney Headquarters.

What do I do before the pre-screens?

Before you actually go to the pre-screen's you must confirm you are attending by logging into your Yummy Jobs account and clicking confirm/accept in the bottom left corner.

You also must email a team member at Yummy Jobs by a certain date, the date this year is 13th of September.

Who's going?

You can meet other applicant's through WDWIP: http://www.wdwip.com/

I would recommend looking for a Facebook group, there is ALWAYS a Facebook group/event. That way you can arrange to meet people and even arrange to share a hotel room or travel down together.

What do I need?

The Essentials!

  • A copy of your most up to date CV

  • A passport style profile picture (Approximately 2" X 2")

  • A copy of your passport picture page

  • An item to represent your home town or the United Kingdom

The Extras!

  • A pen and notepad to take notes during the presentation

  • Directions to the Yummy Jobs Office or where the pre-screens are being held when you apply

  • Printed Yummy Jobs application ( I just like to be prepared)

  • Printed cover letter (again over prepared)

  • A book or IPad to keep you entertained if you have a late interview

What to wear?

I wouldn't treat this like a full blown interview where you go out and buy an expensive new suit. Consider it office smart/casual and just go simple.

Guys: Shirt, Trousers, shoes (totally simple)

Gals: A-line skirt/Black trousers, blouse, Blazer, cardigan, tights, flat shoes (or a small heel)

The only extras i'm buying for the pre-screen is a blazer and flat shoes, I wouldn't go breaking the bank before you have the job! Disney are also a conservative company, so if you turn up at pre-screen's with crazy coloured hair and with tattoos on show you probably won't go any further. I don't recommend girls wearing excessive makeup with big false lashes but just be comfortable and you will feel 100%.

Where can I stay?

Since I had to fly down from Inverness I opted to stay for 2 nights in Epping, there will be other folk who are also staying so you can arrange to stay at the same hotel or in the same room. Most people either said they were staying at The Bell Hotel or the Travelodge in Harlow.

Where to go?

Pre-screen locations can change from year to year but the past few have been held in Epping, Essex. The Yummy Jobs Office is on Epping High Street located above Artisan Fine Art. It is accessible by all major transport routes and is located on the London Underground Central Line. It is also close to Stansted Airport and the also have parking nearby in the town centre.

Yummy Jobs Ltd, 196A High Street, Epping, Essex, CM16 4AQ.

How is the pre-screen set out?

The schedule for the pre-screen's this time around looks like this:

9:15 am - Arrival and Registration

9:30 am - 10:30 am - Yummy Jobs Cultural Representative Program presentation

10:30 am - 12:30 pm - Group Interview Activities

12:30 pm - 1:30 pm - Break

1:30 pm - 5:30 pm - Individual Interviews

What happens in the presentation?

I have only been to the CEP pre-screen and the Loews pre-screen in the past however they all begin the same with a presentation early in the morning. First you'll sign in with Yummy Jobs then you'll all sit and watch a presentation. This presentation is designed to give you more details about the program and gets you pumped about working and living in Orlando. They also do a pop quiz about Walt Disney World so here is where you can let your nerd out! After this you will be sorted into groups and given a time and location (please write this down!)

What happens in the group interview?

Head to the location of your group interview about 5/10 minutes early and wait outside until a representative calls you in. If you are later in the day the interviews may run late so just be warned. The interview lasts for about 30-60 minutes but this can depend on who you have from Yummy Jobs. Just remember the most important thing to do is engage with the people in your group and talk. The reason behind all of this is to see what your personality is like in a social situation.

What item should I bring?

I feel this is where most people stress but all the blogs and videos just say relax. Yummy Jobs just want to see you enthusiastic and talk about your home town. You will have to do this a lot with guests if you get the job so as long as you can talk about why your item represents your town then you're good to go! You could bring a postcard, a touristy gimic anything you want so long as you talk. Be confident and chatty but not bossy.

What questions will I be asked?

There are many questions you could be asked, but don't rehearse your answers. You could come across as a robot and not genuine so do your research but don't go overboard. These are just some questions you could be asked.

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

Introduce the person beside you

- Name, age, location, interesting fact

Do you have an availability date or is it as soon as possible?

Do you have a preference of a role?

Why do you prefer Food & Beverage/merchandise?

Why do you want to do this program?

What is your motivation for the program?

An interesting fact about yourself?

Three buzzwords to describe yourself

Advertise the following traditionally British item?

- This could be anything from a roast dinner to beer

How do you feel about living with people from other countries?

How will being around people from other countries/ cultures will help you in the future?

How will you cope being away from your family?

How will you use your previous experience in this job?

How would you describe your hometown to a guest at the park?

Why will this program be special for you?

Design an attraction for the UK pavilion in your group

How would you greet a child if you were working in Kidcot?

If you could take one item from the UK to the States, what would it be?

What Disney character best describes you?

What would you find difficult about living in Florida

Do's and Dont's

Don't be fake, just be yourself

Don't worry about not getting your word in, they won't move on until everyone speaks

Do fill in awkward silences

Don't be unprofessional, it is an interview so don't try too hard to be the interviewers best friend

Do show that you are engaged in other peoples answers

Don't mention how much you hate your hometown or how much you want to get away
